What's This?

This is an inventory of You Are Here-related stuff. Items appear in this table for one of two reasons (or both):

• Somebody wants to use it on the playa (the Want column is filled out).
• Somebody owns it, thinks it might be useful on the playa, and is willing to bring it (the Have column is filled out).

There are notes about how to interpret & use the table at the end of this page.

How to Use This

• If you already own stuff you are willing to bring to the playa for our collective camp experience, add it to the inventory table above:
  • Figure out what category your item goes in using the key below, and look in the table above for an existing line that describes your item.
    • If you find a matching line, add a new text line in the Have column for the quantity you have.
    • If you don't find a match, add a new row in this category for your item, being sure to fill out the Have column.
• If there is stuff you want to use on the playa, whether you think anybody has it or not, add it to the inventory table above:
  • Figure out what category your item goes in using the key below, and look in the table above for an existing line that describes your item.
    • If you find a matching line, add a new text line in the Want column for the quantity you want to use.
    • If you don't find a match, add a new row in this category for your item, being sure to fill out the Want column.
• If you don't have a specific use in mind, but think we should bring something on principle, add an entry to the Want column as usual, but use the word "margin" after the extra amount you think we should bring and put "Stuff Tent" in the location, e.g. maybe for tarps "2 margin (Brenda, Stuff Tent)".
• If you are bringing anything personal (e.g. a bicycle) that someone else will be transporting to the playa, make an entry for it with as much as you know in the Have and Want columns, and fill out Transport as soon as you find it a lift. For luggage, just list the size & number of your bags or boxes, and note any other non-obvious constraints (e.g. need access in transit or can't be stacked on top of).
• After we have populated the rows with what we have already & what we want, we will know:
  • What to leave behind (because we Have more than we Want)
  • What to buy (because we Want more than we Have)
  • What to pack (eventually, what to pack in each vehicle)
  • How each item is getting to the playa
  • About how much storage the physical organization person needs to arrange, both large-scale off-playa & smaller-scale on-playa (e.g. drawers or boxes)
• On the playa, there will be a small binder tied to the wall in the Stuff Tent, with a printout of the inventory list and a map of the Stuff Tent, to help you find what you are looking for on the playa.

This system is a lightweight version of the one Brenda set up for the Church of Mez's 150 person village. It requires a little extra pre-playa effort to achieve joyous ease on-playa, but has received rave reviews and the highest form of flattery from past participants. If it's not working, we can definitely change it, but let's try something to smooth out the bumps of dealing with the stuff this year.

Key

• Category is what kind of stuff this is, from the list below; ping Brenda before you add another category in case she muffed the descriptions
  • Connectors connect stuff to other stuff, e.g. rope, Superglue, cable ties, velcro, tarp clips, rebar or screws.
  • Tools are used to manipulate other stuff, e.g. screwdrivers, soldering irons or sledgehammers. This category also includes consumable parts of tools, e.g. bits or blades.
  • Safety items keep people safe, e.g. work gloves, the first aid kit, ear plugs, dust masks, condoms or an emergency radio.
  • Sanitation items keep something clean, e.g. vinegar, paper towels, trash bags, toilet paper or soap.
  • Structure are items large enough to appear on the camp layout, e.g. tents, iCasa, Tape Town or a shower structure. This category also includes building materials, e.g. tarps or extra poles. This category also includes items from other categories that are part of a particular structure, e.g. screws or cloth for the arrow.
  • Power items create or distribute power, e.g. solar panels, batteries, generator fuel or extension cords.
  • Decor items go inside structures (or on people) to make them more cool or useful, e.g. throw pillows, lighting, tables, mirrors or glow.
• Item is what you call this piece of stuff; try to leave out quantities, size descriptions, and anything else that appears in one of the other columns
• Want is how many (or in some cases, how much) of this item the given wrangler wants in the given playa location
  • Wrangler is who wants or is dealing with this item on the playa
  • Playa Location is where this item will be used on the playa
• Have is how many (or in some cases, how much) of this item the given owner is keeping in the given storage location, and transporting in the given vehicle
  • Owner is who owns this item; YAH is You Are Here, i.e. this is a group-funded item
  • Storage Location is where this item lives off-playa
  • Transport is the vehicle that will take this item from its storage location to the playa
• Dimensions is how big the item is in some item-specific useful dimension
• Note is whatever else you need to say about this item, e.g. its color, how exactly you plan to use it on-playa, or some buzzwords or description that will help you or your campmates think of the right thing

Storage

• Currently storage space is 6'x8', $120/month, space K038 at Army St Mini Storage, 1100 26th St, San Francisco. Paid through 9/1, with 10 day grace period.
